Pikes Peak Region Sees Highest Hotline Calls as Colorado Expands Support to Prevent Child Abuse

“Colorado is refocusing efforts on child abuse prevention this Child Abuse Prevention Month, shifting from solely responding to incidents to proactive support for families.

This change comes after new data revealed nearly 6,000 children in the state were victims of abuse or neglect last year. The Pikes Peak region, in particular, recorded more than 18,000 calls to the child abuse hotline, more than any other area in Colorado.

The statewide figure of nearly 6,000 child victims translates to approximately five children out of every thousand experiencing abuse or neglect. While the total number of children within the child welfare system is declining across Colorado, the high volume of calls from the Pikes Peak region highlights an urgent local need for resources. Officials emphasize that providing adequate support for families can significantly alter outcomes and prevent harmful situations from occurring.”
